What is Sei?
Launch and execution
Sei's mainnet beta launched on August 15, 2023. The network executes Ethereum-compatible contracts and supports Solidity development tools. Parallel transaction processing lets compatible operations run concurrently. Execution checks preserve a consistent state when transactions interact. The Giga upgrade program expands its execution, consensus and storage architecture. SIP-3 prepares the network for an EVM-only design by retiring native Cosmos and CosmWasm transaction paths. This transition is implemented through successive releases and governance decisions.
Token and security
SEI has a maximum supply of ten billion tokens. The original plan assigned 51% to community purposes, including ecosystem reserves and incentives. SEI pays transaction charges and supports validator staking. Holders can delegate to validators and earn network rewards after commission. Staked balances also participate in governance. Unbonding is subject to a 21-day period. Validator downtime and double signing can result in slashing under the protocol's rules.
