What is XRP?
Origin and use
The XRP Ledger launched in June 2012, developed by David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb and Arthur Britto. XRP is used for payments, transaction fees and account reserves. It can also bridge currencies through the ledger's built-in decentralized exchange.
Technology and supply
The ledger uses the XRP Ledger Consensus Protocol with trusted validator lists, called UNLs. It requires neither mining nor token staking. All 100 billion XRP were created at launch. Transaction fees are burned, gradually reducing total supply; no new XRP is issued.
