What is Colombian Peso?
Overview
wCOP brings the Colombian peso onto decentralized networks, allowing Colombians and international users to transact, save, and participate in DeFi using their local currency. The token facilitates faster and cheaper peso transfers, remittance flows, currency exchange, lending markets, and payment settlement without converting away from the peso unit of account.
How it works
wCOP is deployed across eight blockchains: World Chain, Celo, HyperEVM, Ethereum, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, and Gnosis Chain. The token is issued and governed by a Ripio subsidiary, leveraging the company's established presence in Latin America since 2013 to provide on and off-ramps and infrastructure.
Peg and backing
wCOP maintains a 1:1 peg to the Colombian peso through full collateralization. The token is fully backed, with reserves held to ensure the stability of the peg across all supported networks.
Supply
Total supply is approximately 1.38 billion wCOP tokens. The project does not specify a maximum supply cap or outline an issuance mechanism.
