What is Dero?
Overview
Dero is a general-purpose platform designed to enable developers to build applications where user privacy and asset control are guaranteed. It uses homomorphic encryption so that account activity remains encrypted and inaccessible to anyone except the account owner. The network supports both public and private token smart contracts alongside native token transfers.
How it works
Dero operates on its own blockchain using the AstroBWT proof-of-work consensus algorithm. The platform implements a homomorphic encryption scheme (DERO-HE) and the DERO Homomorphic Encryption Blockchain Protocol (DHEBP) to encrypt all transactions including those involving smart contracts. Block settlement occurs approximately every 18 seconds, and the network supports light nodes through blockchain pruning.
Token and supply
DERO is the native asset of the Dero blockchain with a fixed maximum supply of 21 million tokens. New tokens are issued through proof-of-work mining with a halving schedule. The token functions as the network fee asset and is used for transactions and smart contract interactions.
Team and history
Dero launched on December 5, 2017. The project is maintained through the public code repository at github.com/deroproject/derosuite.
