What is Hush?
Overview
Hush is a blockchain platform designed to protect user privacy by anonymizing transaction metadata at the protocol level. It incorporates zkSNARK cryptography, TLS encryption for secure nodes, and Tor node support to provide layered privacy protections. The network also functions as a platform for censorship-resistant encrypted messaging, where transactions serve as the underlying mechanism for sending and receiving data.
How it works
Hush operates as its own independent blockchain using Equihash as its proof-of-work consensus algorithm. It is based on the Zcash codebase and allows users to send either shielded (anonymous) or transparent transactions. The network includes HushList, a messaging protocol that stores encrypted communications and binary data directly on the blockchain, decryptable only by the intended recipient's private key.
Token and supply
HUSH is the native asset of the Hush blockchain and serves as both a store of value and payment medium for network transactions and messaging operations. The maximum supply is fixed at 21 million HUSH, with a current circulating supply of approximately 16.4 million tokens.
Team and history
Hush launched on November 20, 2016, as a fork of the Zcash 1.0.9 codebase, designed to extend privacy protections beyond financial transactions to include metadata and communication patterns.
