What is Songbird?
Network purpose
Songbird began operating in 2021. It provides a live environment before changes reach Flare. The network supports Ethereum-compatible smart contracts. Its native currency pays transaction fees. The chain identifier is 19. Unlike a faucet-based testnet, Songbird assets have market value. Applications can interact with its data and interoperability protocols.
Data and participation
The Flare Time Series Oracle supplies decentralized price feeds. The Flare Data Connector verifies requested external events. Its attestations can cover information from other blockchains and approved data sources. SGB can be wrapped as WSGB for participation in supported mechanisms. Delegating vote power to data providers can earn protocol rewards. Token holders can also participate in Songbird governance.
Issuance
The initial supply was fifteen billion SGB. Network incentives are funded through inflation and applicable protocol fees. The accepted inflation update introduced a 5% annual rate from the third year. It also capped annual recognized inflation at 750 million SGB. Inflatable-balance calculations account for claimed rewards and designated burns.
