What is STAMP?
Overview
STAMP is a blockchain-agnostic protocol designed to embed image data directly into Bitcoin transactions with permanent on-chain storage. Unlike conventional NFTs that rely on external links or prunable witness data, STAMP encodes images into transaction outputs where they become part of the permanent ledger. The protocol is optimized for small pixel art images, particularly 24x24 pixel formats with 8-bit color depth, similar to CryptoPunks native resolution.
How it works
Images are converted to base64 format and appended as a suffix to the string 'STAMP:' in a transaction's description key, then broadcast via the Counterparty protocol onto Bitcoin. The data length causes the Counterparty protocol to use bare multisig outputs rather than prunable OP_RETURN opcodes, preserving image data in a manner that cannot be removed from full nodes. STAMP entries are numbered sequentially based on transaction timestamp, starting from zero, with invalid or unreadable base64 strings excluded from the directory.
Token and supply
STAMP is the native asset of its own blockchain with a fixed maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. The total and circulating supply are both 1 billion, with no additional issuance or token burning mechanics described.
