What is USDPT | Western Union?
Issuer and launch
Western Union announced USDPT’s launch on May 4, 2026. Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. is its issuer. The companies describe the token as fully backed by US dollars. USDPT operates on Solana. Its purpose is to bring a digital settlement asset into Western Union’s payment infrastructure. Institutional counterparties form part of its initial use model.
Settlement and distribution
The token supports transfers without relying on conventional banking cut-off times. Western Union connects that capability with treasury management and agent liquidity. Blockchain settlement is intended to improve movement of funds across its network. Issuance and redemption determine the outstanding token balance. USDPT is separate from Western Union’s corporate shares. The company also announced a Digital Asset Network initiative. That initiative connects licensed digital-asset services with cash payout infrastructure. Consumer-facing stablecoin services were described as further rollout work in 2026. The launch announcement does not establish that every proposed consumer service was already available. Its dollar backing does not create a stated fixed interest payment for token holders.
