What is Across Protocol?
Transfer architecture
A user submits a transfer intent on the origin chain. Relayers supply the requested assets on the destination chain. They front their own capital to complete the transfer. SpokePool contracts record deposits and relay activity. A HubPool coordinates liquidity and reimbursement. Settlement batches use Merkle roots to summarize transfers. UMA’s optimistic oracle provides the dispute mechanism for these settlement claims.
Organization and token role
ACX has served as Across’s governance token. The current Bridge Across proposal describes a transition to a private United States corporation called AcrossCo. A Snapshot vote approved the direction of this restructuring. Implementation remains underway in the published documentation. A proposed ACX exchange portal is not yet described as fully operational. Final exchange terms are to be published separately. Holding ACX therefore should not be presented as completed ownership of AcrossCo shares. ACX is also distinct from the assets relayers advance and the oracle bonds used for settlement disputes.
