What is KuCoin?
Launch and network
KuCoin introduced KCS in 2017. It was originally issued on Ethereum as an ERC-20 token. KCS also serves as the native asset of KuCoin Community Chain, known as KCC. Transfers and smart-contract execution on KCC consume KCS as gas. Holders can delegate KCS to KCC validators and receive a share of gas-fee rewards.
Exchange functions
KuCoin supports KCS for selected trading-fee discounts and account benefits. Its current loyalty program links benefits to the amount of KCS staked. KuCoin Earn handles exchange staking through a custodial service. KCS can also participate in supported Spotlight sales and BurningDrop campaigns. GemVote uses it for votes on candidate project listings.
Issuance policy
The original KCS issuance was capped at 200 million tokens. KuCoin repurchases and burns KCS using a revenue-based program. Burns are reported monthly and reduce the outstanding supply. The stated long-term target is 100 million remaining tokens. KCS Management Foundation coordinates the token ecosystem with KuCoin and KCC participants.
