What is Kyber Network Crystal?
Token history
Kyber completed its original Ethereum token sale on September 16, 2017. The initial allocation was two hundred twenty-six million KNC. Unclaimed tokens were subsequently burned. A governance-approved token migration began on April 20, 2021. The old asset became KNCL, while the new contract retained the KNC name. Legacy tokens remain convertible at a one-to-one rate.
Governance model
Staking KNC gives holders voting power in KyberDAO. They vote on Kyber Improvement Proposals concerning the ecosystem and token framework. Governance participation is linked to distributions from protocol trading fees. This is application-level governance rather than validation of a separate blockchain. KyberSwap's trading and liquidity infrastructure operates on supported host networks.
Supply and utility
The DAO approved additional issuance for an ecosystem growth fund in June 2021. The token framework therefore allows supply changes through governance rather than preserving the original sale amount as an immutable cap. KNC can also be allocated to liquidity incentives. Holders can contribute it to supported exchange pools under those pools' terms. Gas costs remain charges of the host blockchain rather than a native KNC consensus fee.
