What is peaq?
Machine activation
peaq connects physical devices to on-chain identities and economic activity. Its Economics 2.0 model went live on September 7, 2026. Machine activations are priced in dollars and settled through PEAQ bonds. Each bond establishes the machine's economic standing within the system.
Staking
Chain validators produce blocks with backing from staked PEAQ. Delegators choose validators and share in their rewards. Economics 2.0 introduces Trust Validation for verifying real-world machine activity. Public staking is transitioning toward this role while the existing chain-validator system continues operating.
Issuance
The genesis supply was 4.2 billion PEAQ. Initial annual inflation was 3.5%, with a 10% relative reduction each scheduled year until it reaches 1%. The published policy also specifies a cap of approximately 5.668 billion coins. Runtime enforcement of that cap is scheduled for a future upgrade.
Economic flows
New emissions and chain transaction fees follow a 30/30/20/20 allocation across staking, machine incentives, treasury and activation provisioning. Machine rewards can support renewal discounts and additional activations. Bonded coins remain in machine contracts during participation. The lifecycle model assigns part of expired bonds to burning. The documented burn address remains unset, so this portion has not yet reduced total supply.
