What is USDC?
Origin and use
USDC launched on 26 September 2018 as an Ethereum ERC-20 token issued by Circle. Circle was founded by Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville. USDC provides a dollar-denominated asset for payments, exchange trading and settlement in decentralized finance.
Technology and supply
Circle issues USDC natively on multiple blockchains and backs it with bank deposits, short-term US Treasuries and Treasury reverse repos. Issuance and redemption determine supply, with no fixed cap. Circle's CCTP moves native USDC between supported networks through burning and minting.
