What is VeThor?
Network use
Transactions and smart-contract execution on VeChainThor are priced in VTHO. This dual-token model separates transaction expenditure from the amount of VET committed to the network. The blockchain supports EVM-compatible applications and enterprise data services. Its fee market adjusts the required base fee according to network conditions. Users can set an additional priority fee for their transaction.
Staking rewards
The Hayabusa upgrade moved VeChainThor to its delegated staking model in December 2025. New VTHO generation now depends on the VET actively locked into that system. Merely holding unstaked VET no longer earns newly generated VTHO. Delegators participate through StarGate staking positions assigned to validators. Validators produce blocks and share protocol rewards with their delegators.
Supply mechanics
VTHO has no fixed maximum supply. New rewards expand supply, while transaction-fee burning removes tokens. The technical documentation specifies burning of the base fee and payment of the priority fee to the block proposer. Generation parameters and network activity determine the balance between issuance and destruction. VTHO itself provides execution capacity rather than the VET stake used to select validators.
