What is Aion?
Overview
Aion functions as a blockchain platform that solves interoperability challenges across multiple independent blockchains. The network supports custom blockchain architectures and enables communication between chains that would otherwise operate in isolation. The platform serves both decentralized applications and enterprise-oriented use cases seeking to bridge separate blockchain networks.
How it works
Aion operates as a multi-tier blockchain using both Proof of Stake and Proof of Work consensus mechanisms. The platform enables inter-chain bridges that facilitate token movement and communication between different blockchains while maintaining the security and independence of each connected chain.
Token and supply
AION is the native asset of the Aion blockchain and serves multiple functions: securing the network through staking, creating new blockchains, and monetizing inter-chain bridges. The token was initially launched as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum before becoming the official network asset. Total supply is approximately 567.2 million AION with no maximum supply cap listed.
Team and history
Aion launched on October 19, 2017. The project is led by Matthew Spoke (CEO of Nuco and EEA board member), Jin Tu (Nuco CTO with over 15 years of enterprise engineering experience), and Peter Vessenes (Bitcoin Foundation co-founder).
