What is ALEO?
Private execution
Aleo applications use cryptographic proofs to demonstrate that computations followed their rules. Proof generation allows an application to keep selected inputs private. Validators verify the proof rather than repeating the private computation. ALEO pays the fees associated with network operations. The asset also participates in the network's staking system.
Consensus and proving
AleoBFT combines a stake-weighted validator committee with a separate proving mechanism. Its consensus design uses Narwhal and Bullshark components. Agreement requires more than two-thirds of the relevant committee stake. Provers compete to solve the network's coinbase puzzle. Puzzle rewards allocate two-thirds to provers and one-third to validators.
Issuance limits
Validators and delegators also receive block rewards. The proving reward schedule decreases over its initial ten-year period. ARC-0047 established a five-billion-token hard cap. Its cutoff at block height 263,527,685 sets both block and coinbase issuance to zero. The capped schedule replaces the earlier model of continuing issuance.
