What is Ampleforth?
Overview
Ampleforth is a smart-contract protocol that implements an elastic supply mechanism for its native asset AMPL. Unlike fixed-supply cryptocurrencies, AMPL's total quantity expands or contracts in response to price deviations from a $1 target, with adjustments applied pro-rata across all token holders once every 24 hours. This design creates counter-cyclical trading pressure and produces an asset uncorrelated with major cryptocurrencies.
How it works
AMPL is deployed across multiple blockchains including Ethereum, NEAR, Harmony, Energi, BNB Chain, and Avalanche. The protocol monitors price relative to its $1 peg and triggers automatic rebase events daily, which either increase or decrease the balance of every wallet holding AMPL proportionally.
Token and supply
AMPL has no maximum supply cap. Total supply currently stands at approximately 2.88 million tokens with circulating supply around 2.70 million. The supply mechanism is the core mechanic rather than traditional inflation or deflation; token quantities adjust through rebases rather than through emission or burning of new tokens.
