What is ARK?
Public network
The original network uses ARK Core software. Its Delegated Proof of Stake system selects 51 active validators. Coin holders vote for a validator using their wallet balances. The vote does not require sending the coins to that validator. Voting weight changes when the wallet balance changes. Validators take turns submitting blocks. ARK pays fees for transfers and other network transactions.
Rewards and development
The Core network’s documented block interval is eight seconds. A produced block awards two newly issued ARK to its validator. The validator also receives the block’s transaction fees. Issuance consequently continues through block rewards. Some validators voluntarily distribute rewards to their voters. Distribution rates and commissions depend on each validator’s policy. ARK Ecosystem is also developing Mainsail, a successor protocol with an EVM execution environment. Its public testnet is separate from the original Core network.
