What is Audius?
Music network
AUDIO reached mainnet in October 2020. Audius separates music storage from the services that index and discover it. Content nodes host the files and associated data. Discovery nodes organize the information applications need to find content. Service operators stake AUDIO to participate in the network. Their stakes connect economic incentives with reliable service. Delegators can support operators by allocating AUDIO to them.
Token economics
Staking distributes token rewards to participating operators and delegators. The reward system includes ongoing token issuance. AUDIO therefore has an inflationary distribution model rather than a permanently fixed genesis supply. Governance can alter economic parameters. It also provides a route for deciding how network resources are used. The community grants program supports contributions to the ecosystem. A 2024 governance proposal sought additional funding for that program through emissions. The token’s protocol role centers on network participation and governance.
