What is Aurora?

Execution on NEAR

Aurora runs the Ethereum Virtual Machine within NEAR's infrastructure. Developers can deploy Solidity contracts using familiar Ethereum tools. Relayers package EVM transactions into NEAR transactions. NEAR supplies the underlying computation and consensus. Users of Aurora's main network pay transaction fees in ETH.

Governance asset

AURORA supports the project's governance system. Its original Ethereum contract is a non-upgradeable ERC-20. The Rainbow Bridge connects token representations on Ethereum, NEAR and Aurora. One billion tokens were created at genesis on October 7, 2021. The supply was created in advance rather than issued as block rewards.

Treasury and burns

The allocation includes community and DAO treasuries. Other pools support contributors, investors, staking incentives and grants. Their unlocks follow the published distribution arrangements. NEAR rewards earned by Aurora contracts can fund AURORA market purchases. Purchased tokens are transferred to Ethereum and burned under the DAO's buyback process.
