What is Axie Infinity?
Game origins
Axie Infinity began with a creature presale in February 2018. Sky Mavis develops the game ecosystem, with Trung Nguyen among its co-founders. Axies are individually owned NFTs with inherited body-part traits. Players use them in battles and can breed eligible creatures to produce offspring. Axie Classic, Origins and Homeland provide different game experiences.
AXS participation
AXS was introduced as an ERC-20 token for the Axie ecosystem. Its uses include staking, governance participation and the AXS component of breeding fees. The Community Treasury receives ecosystem revenue, including breeding-related AXS payments. Players can receive AXS through designated reward programs. Tokenholders participate in decisions through the project's governance arrangements.
Supply and game economy
The published AXS supply limit is 270 million tokens. Allocations cover player rewards, staking, ecosystem development, Sky Mavis, advisers and token sales. The original release plan spread unlocks across 65 months following the public sale. Actual reward issuance follows the relevant programs rather than the maximum unlock schedule alone. Smooth Love Potion supplies a separate breeding resource alongside AXS. Ronin provides blockchain infrastructure for the game's assets and transactions.
