What is Band?
Oracle requests
BandChain is built with the Cosmos SDK. Its Tendermint-based consensus coordinates validator agreement. Oracle scripts specify how requested data should be gathered and processed. These scripts use WebAssembly execution. Validators retrieve observations from the relevant data sources. The resulting aggregated data can be relayed to other blockchains. Band's infrastructure also supports threshold signatures and verifiable random functions.
Staking and governance
BAND pays transaction fees and provides validator staking collateral. Holders can delegate tokens to validators. Staking rewards combine newly issued BAND with network fees. Issuance adjusts according to the proportion of tokens bonded. Two percent of block rewards is directed to the community pool. Delegators can cast their own governance votes instead of inheriting a validator's choice. Misconduct, downtime and failures to respond to oracle requests can trigger slashing.
