What is BEAM?
Overview
Beam is a scalable cryptocurrency implementing Mimblewimble protocol to provide transaction privacy without storing addresses or user information on-chain. Transactions are confidential by default, and users retain complete control over their privacy settings. The network supports online and offline transactions, atomic swaps, and hardware wallet integration.
How it works
Beam uses a Proof of Work consensus mechanism with the Beam Hash algorithm, producing blocks approximately every minute. Transactions are created offline or online using secure channels, signed by both parties via Schnorr protocol, and verified against the blockchain state stored as a Merkle Tree. New nodes can synchronize rapidly using compacted history containing only system state and headers rather than full transaction records.
Token and supply
The total supply is approximately 262.8 million BEAM, with no maximum supply cap specified. There was no premine or ICO at launch. Governance is handled by a non-profit foundation established to oversee the protocol.
