What is Berachain?
Execution and security
Berachain launched its mainnet in 2025. BeaconKit supplies its consensus-client framework and connects to an EVM execution client. Applications use Ethereum-style contracts and tooling. Validators stake BERA to enter the active set. Block-production probability depends on their staked amount.
Liquidity incentives
The current emission asset is WBERA, the one-to-one wrapped form of BERA. Block emissions pay validator operators and supply Reward Vaults through BeraChef. These vaults connect reward distribution with liquidity activity in applications. BERA also pays transaction fees. The network burns those fees.
Staked positions
Depositing BERA or WBERA into the staking vault creates sWBERA. Its underlying value grows through WBERA received from incentive auctions. Rewards compound inside the vault. Returning to BERA or WBERA requires a seven-day withdrawal cooldown.
Supply
Genesis issuance totaled 500 million BERA. Community allocations received 48.9%, investors 34.3% and initial contributors 16.8%. Proof-of-Liquidity emissions add supply at a stated annual rate of approximately 5%, subject to governance. Fee burning offsets part of that issuance.
