What is BNB?
Origin and use
Binance issued BNB in 2017 through an ICO held from 26 June to 3 July. Binance was co-founded by Changpeng Zhao and Yi He. Originally an Ethereum ERC-20 token, BNB now pays BNB Chain fees and supports validator staking, governance and Binance trading-fee discounts.
Technology and supply
BNB Smart Chain combines EVM execution with Proof of Staked Authority consensus. Initial supply was 200 million BNB. Auto-Burn targets a reduction to 100 million, while BEP-95 burns part of BSC gas fees. The ecosystem also includes opBNB and Greenfield.
