What is Bitcoin SV?
Network
The BSV chain inherited its earlier transaction history through Bitcoin Cash's Bitcoin lineage. It uses double-SHA-256 proof of work. Miners compete to create blocks, while nodes validate transactions against the consensus rules. The ledger uses unspent transaction outputs rather than account balances. Bitcoin Script sets the conditions for spending each output. The Genesis upgrade in February 2020 removed numerous protocol limits. Block capacity is governed by miner configuration rather than a single fixed protocol-wide block-size maximum.
Issuance and applications
The issuance schedule limits the supply to approximately 21 million BSV. One BSV is divisible into 100 million satoshis. New units are issued through block subsidies. The subsidy halves every 210,000 blocks. Miners also receive transaction fees. BSV pays for value transfers and transactions carrying application data. Its scripting and output model can support tokens, micropayments and data records. Applications can use Merkle proofs to verify transaction inclusion without downloading the complete chain. The native coin is issued by mining rather than staking.
