What is Bitget Token?
Origins and exchange uses
BGB was issued as an Ethereum ERC-20 token on July 26, 2021. Its initial supply was two billion tokens. Bitget introduced it for benefits within its exchange and wallet products. Supported uses include selected trading-fee discounts and participation in Launchpool campaigns. Individual benefits depend on the rules of the relevant product.
Morph integration
In September 2025, Bitget transferred its remaining team allocation to the Morph Foundation. The arrangement assigned the foundation responsibility for the token's future development. BGB now has gas, governance, and settlement functions in Morph's ecosystem. Morph operates as an Ethereum Layer 2 rather than a separate proof-of-work mining network. BGB's exchange utility continues alongside these blockchain functions.
Supply reductions
An initial burn removed 800 million BGB in early 2025. The Morph transition included another burn of 220 million tokens. A further 220 million from the transferred allocation entered a gradual release schedule. Subsequent quarterly burns use a formula linked to Morph activity, token price, and adjustable governance parameters. These later reductions mean the original two-billion issuance and intermediate supply figures are historical amounts.
