What is Bonfida?
Names and transactions
Solana Name Service maps readable .sol names to blockchain addresses. Its marketplace supports trading those names. FIDA is one of the supported quote assets for fixed-price sales and unsolicited offers. The published legacy utility includes a 5% domain-related discount. That function is distinct from paying Solana network gas.
Changes to participation
Bonfida deprecated its original FIDA staking arrangement in May 2023. That arrangement had distributed part of domain-registration revenue to stakers. A final reserve distribution and burn addressed funds remaining from the discontinued model. The old gFIDA voting system also had limited participation. Bonfida later introduced a separate SNS community-token model. The newer distribution included allocations for eligible FIDA holders and other Solana communities. FIDA continued with its existing discount utility under the transition announcement. Holding FIDA should therefore be distinguished from holding the SNS token or participating in the retired staking contract.
