What is Bonk?
Launch and distribution
BONK originated with contributors from the Solana ecosystem, including developers and collectors. It launched at Christmas in December 2022. The original supply was 100 trillion tokens. Half of that supply was assigned to an airdrop for existing Solana participants. Recipient groups included NFT holders, traders, artists and developers. Early contributor tokens were subject to three years of linear vesting. Other allocations supported the DAO, liquidity and ecosystem development.
Solana token and applications
BONK uses Solana's SPL token standard. Transfers are processed by Solana, with network fees paid in SOL. The token can be integrated into wallets, decentralized exchanges and payment applications. The ecosystem includes BONKswap for non-custodial token swaps. BONK-linked consumer products also cover games, collectibles and community initiatives. Token burns have reduced the original issued supply. Product-specific rewards and burns depend on the rules of the applications implementing them.
