What is Chromia?
Application architecture
Chromia combines blockchain execution with relational database technology. Applications are written using the Rell development environment. Its design assigns dedicated resources to applications rather than making every user pay a gas charge for each action. Providers operate the nodes that store and process application data. Applications pay hosting and container-lease costs in CHR.
Network economy
The Economy Chain manages native CHR and the associated payments. It handles distribution of provider compensation. Providers must meet staking requirements to participate. Holders can delegate native CHR to those providers through Chromia Vault. Delegation supports security and entitles participants to applicable rewards. Reward amounts depend on network rules and provider conditions.
Cross-chain transition
Chromia's bridge connects native CHR with its Ethereum and BNB Chain representations. Those representations are distinct from creating an independent token allocation on each network. Rewards for EVM-chain staking were phased out between December 2025 and April 2026. Native mainnet delegation is the current documented staking route. CHR also supports account creation and standardised payments between applications.
