What is Conflux?
Ledger and consensus
Conflux's mainnet began operating in 2020. Its Tree-Graph structure records concurrently produced blocks rather than treating every competing block as discarded work. The GHAST ordering algorithm derives an agreed transaction history from that structure. Proof-of-work miners produce blocks. A proof-of-stake mechanism adds finality and protects finalized history. CFX supplies the economic incentives for both forms of network participation.
Core Space and eSpace
Conflux separates execution into Core Space and eSpace. Core Space uses the network's original account and transaction format. eSpace provides an Ethereum-compatible environment for Solidity contracts and familiar wallet tooling. Both spaces share the underlying ledger while maintaining separate execution states. A built-in cross-space contract supports CFX transfers and specified contract interactions between them. Core Space sponsorship lets a sponsor cover eligible users' transaction and storage costs.
Utility and issuance
CFX pays for transfers, contract execution and required storage collateral. Holders can commit tokens to staking and supported governance mechanisms. The genesis allocation contained five billion CFX. Subsequent mining and staking rewards add new tokens under protocol parameters. CFX has no fixed maximum supply, and its issuance settings can change through network governance.
