What is Crust Network?
Overview
Crust Network operates a permissionless decentralized storage network supporting IPFS and offering cloud services across multiple blockchains including Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, and BSC. The platform is used by major projects such as Uniswap, Aave, and Polkadot Apps for data storage and decentralized website hosting. It addresses limitations of centralized cloud providers by eliminating single points of failure, reducing costs to 25–50% of traditional services, and providing data encryption and redundancy through distributed node infrastructure.
How it works
Built on Polkadot's Substrate framework, Crust uses a Meaningful Proof of Work (MPoW) consensus mechanism that does not require GPUs or intensive computation. The network maintains high availability by creating approximately 80 replicas of stored data across individual nodes worldwide, enabling retrieval from multiple sources simultaneously. Participation requires only a CPU with TEE functionality, reliable internet, and available storage space.
Token and supply
CRU is a utility token used for staking to maintain consensus, serving as collateral for storage providers, paying transaction fees, purchasing storage services, and on-chain governance. Total supply is approximately 35 million tokens with no hard cap listed. The token functions as the economic incentive layer for the network's storage providers and users.
Team and history
Crust Network launched its mainnet on September 1, 2021.
