What is Dash?
Mining and monetary policy
Dash first appeared under the XCoin name. Miners use the X11 hashing algorithm to produce blocks. The target block interval is approximately 2.6 minutes. Dark Gravity Wave adjusts mining difficulty. The subsidy declines by roughly one fourteenth at scheduled reduction intervals. Total eventual issuance depends on treasury utilization, with the protocol documenting a range of about 17.74 to 18.92 million DASH.
Masternode functions
Regular masternodes require collateral of 1,000 DASH. Evolution masternodes require 4,000 DASH and also serve Dash Platform. Masternode quorums support InstantSend by locking transaction inputs against conflicting spends. ChainLocks use quorum signatures to restrict reorganizations of confirmed blocks. CoinJoin provides a wallet mixing mechanism for improving transaction privacy.
Payments and governance
DASH transfers value and pays network transaction charges. Block rewards compensate miners and the masternode infrastructure. A treasury allocation funds approved development and ecosystem proposals. Masternode operators vote on those budget requests. Dash Platform adds application data and identity services above the payment blockchain.
