What is Degen?
Social origins
Degen grew out of a Farcaster community channel. Its creator operates under the name Jacek. Early distribution rewarded participants in that channel. Fifteen percent of the initial supply was allocated to early Farcaster users. Another fifteen percent was allocated to liquidity provision.
Tipping and applications
Users tip DEGEN to creators through social interactions. Reward programs calculate allowances and eligibility for individual participants. Developer APIs expose tipping records, allocations and claim information. These interfaces connect social activity with token distributions. Community NFTs also form part of the ecosystem.
Degen Chain
DEGEN serves as Degen Chain's native asset. The chain extends the token's role beyond Farcaster tipping. Its applications can use DEGEN in onchain transactions. The project is also developing a dedicated Degen App. That product remains a development initiative rather than an established feature of the token.
