What is DUSK?
Settlement and contracts
DuskDS provides the network's settlement and data-availability foundation. Succinct Attestation is its committee-based Proof-of-Stake consensus. Provisioners propose, validate and ratify blocks. Ratification gives deterministic finality. DuskVM executes Rust and WebAssembly smart contracts directly on the mainnet.
Privacy and execution layers
Moonlight handles transparent public-account transactions. Phoenix is the shielded transaction model using zero-knowledge technology. New Phoenix transaction admission is temporarily paused pending an upgrade. Identity tools support selective disclosure for financial applications. The separate OP Stack-based DuskEVM execution layer currently operates on public testnet.
Staking and supply
DUSK pays transaction fees and supports provisioner staking. Native DUSK has nine decimal places. The initial allocation was 500 million tokens. Another 500 million are scheduled for emission over thirty-six years, bringing maximum supply to one billion. Rewards halve on a four-year schedule. Provisioners must stake at least 1,000 DUSK. Misconduct can trigger penalties, including slashing.
