What is dYdX?
Chain and trading architecture
dYdX Chain began producing blocks in October 2023. Its software uses the Cosmos SDK and CometBFT consensus. Validators operate the network and its decentralized order-book infrastructure. The exchange supports perpetual contracts with USDC collateral and settlement. Traders manage positions through supported interfaces and APIs.
Staking and fees
DYDX holders can delegate tokens to validators. Bonded stake contributes to network security and governance participation. Staking rewards are distributed in USDC under the protocol's fee-allocation rules. Validator commissions and other applicable allocations affect the amount received. Unstaking uses a 30-day unbonding period. The governance-approved buyback program allocates 75% of net protocol fees to DYDX purchases and stakes the acquired tokens.
Migration and supply
DYDX originated from an allocation of one billion tokens associated with the earlier Ethereum-based system. Support for the ethDYDX conversion bridge ended on June 13, 2025. The closure left approximately 41.7 million unbridged tokens outside the effective dYdX Chain supply. Legacy Ethereum tokens can no longer be converted through that bridge. Native DYDX now carries the chain's staking and governance functions.
