What is Edge?
Overview
Edge provides infrastructure for Web3 applications through a decentralized network that pushes computing resources away from centralized data centers toward the point of data generation and use. This distributed computing model reduces data transit distances, lowers latency, and decreases operational costs. The network is maintained by Edge Network Technologies, a not-for-profit organization registered in England.
How it works
Edge operates as a blockchain-based peer-to-peer network designed to deliver high-performance decentralized web services. The network harnesses idle computing capacity distributed across participating devices to provide storage and computation services closer to end users.
Token and supply
EDGE is the network's primary token, deployable on Ethereum and bridgeable into the Edge Network in 1:1 ratio for XE, the internal network currency. XE is used for value transfer, device staking, and community governance. Maximum supply is capped at 60 million tokens, with total supply at approximately 59.7 million.
