What is Elastos?
Overview
Elastos provides infrastructure for building decentralized applications with an emphasis on data ownership and true decentralization. The platform combines blockchain technology with peer-to-peer communication, decentralized data storage, and a decentralized identifier (DID) system for digital assets. elastOS, its flagship application, integrates the entire ecosystem into a single interface, currently available for Android. The Cyber Republic initiative offers community-governed grants to support blockchain startups and existing projects exploring the platform.
How it works
Elastos uses a hybrid consensus mechanism that combines Bitcoin's hashing security with Delegated Proof of Stake. The network functions as a sidechain ecosystem compatible with Ethereum, enabling scaled and decentralized applications. The platform incorporates multiple layers including blockchain validation, peer-to-peer networking, and decentralized storage services to support a comprehensive internet infrastructure.
Token and supply
ELA is the native token of the Elastos network. The maximum supply is capped at 28.2 million ELA. The token's primary use cases include network fees, staking in the consensus mechanism, and participation in governance decisions through the Delegated Proof of Stake model.
Team and history
Elastos was launched on December 22, 2017. The platform was founded by Rong Chen, an operating systems specialist.
