What is EOS?
Overview
EOS is a blockchain platform designed to support smart contracts and decentralized applications. The network is built and maintained by the EOS community, with core development responsibilities distributed among community participants. EOS Support, a community-initiated organization, provides user and technical support services for network participants.
How it works
EOS operates on a Delegated Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, where token holders delegate validation authority to elected nodes. The network processes transactions and executes smart contracts through this delegated validator set.
Token and supply
The EOS token is the native asset of the EOS blockchain. The maximum supply is fixed at 2.1 billion tokens, with all tokens currently in circulation. Token economics and usage mechanics for fees, staking, or governance functions are detailed in the project's blue papers.
Team and history
EOS launched on July 1, 2017. The platform's development is now governed by the EOS community rather than a single founding entity.
