What is Flow?
Execution architecture
Flow separates validator work into specialized roles. Collection nodes organize transaction inputs. Consensus nodes agree on transaction ordering. Execution nodes perform the main computation. Verification nodes check execution results. This division is central to Flow's approach to scaling.
Application environment
Cadence is Flow's resource-oriented smart-contract language. Its resource model is designed for assets with explicit ownership. The Crescendo upgrade also introduced an EVM execution environment. Developers can use Solidity contracts alongside Flow's native application tools. FLOW pays transaction charges and participates in network staking.
Token issuance
Flow's genesis supply was 1.25 billion FLOW in June 2020. Validator rewards can create additional tokens. Transaction fees contribute to funding these rewards before new issuance is required. The resulting issuance depends partly on fee revenue. FLOW also supports delegation and the network's storage-related economics.
