What is Gate?
Token history
GT was issued on April 1, 2019. Its initial distribution comprised 300 million tokens provided to purchasers of Gate point cards. Undistributed tokens were subsequently destroyed. Gate has continued publishing periodic token burn announcements. These burns reduce supply separately from the token's uses on the exchange and blockchain.
GateChain technology
GateChain is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain. Its GateMint consensus uses a proof-of-stake design. GT pays transaction fees and contributes to the weight of consensus accounts. Holders can delegate GT to participating accounts without a minimum delegation amount. Vault Accounts support revocable transfers to a retrieval account during a defined recovery period.
Exchange and network uses
On Gate, GT can be used for supported trading-fee discounts. Holding the token also contributes to the exchange's VIP qualification system. Startup and HODLer Airdrop programs use GT balances for participation eligibility. GateChain supports Ethereum-compatible contracts and decentralized applications whose execution consumes GT fees. Consensus participants receive block rewards and transaction fees according to the network's reward rules.
