What is Gearbox?
Overview
Gearbox functions as a generalized leverage protocol with two participant classes: passive liquidity providers who earn enhanced yields, and active borrowers who access leverage for trading or yield farming. The protocol enables leverage to be taken once and then applied across multiple DeFi platforms in a composable manner. The design envisions integration as an embedded backend service, allowing other protocols to offer leverage as a built-in feature.
How it works
Gearbox operates on Ethereum. Liquidity providers deposit assets into the protocol to supply borrowing capacity, while users borrow against collateral to execute leveraged positions across connected DeFi applications. The protocol abstracts leverage provisioning as a composable primitive for downstream integration.
Token and supply
GEAR is the protocol token, deployed on Ethereum. Maximum supply is fixed at 10 billion tokens.
