What is Global Dollar?
Issuer and launch
Paxos announced USDG on November 1, 2024. The original Singapore issuer is Paxos Digital Singapore Pte. Ltd. That company operates under Monetary Authority of Singapore supervision as a Major Payments Institution. Global Dollar Network brings together businesses distributing and integrating the token. Its initial participants included Paxos, Kraken, Robinhood, Anchorage Digital, Bullish, Galaxy Digital and Nuvei.
Reserves and supply
Each unit is redeemable through Paxos for one US dollar under the applicable account terms. The reserve portfolio holds cash and short-duration dollar assets, including US government securities. These assets are maintained in segregated accounts. Paxos publishes monthly reserve reports and independent attestations. Token issuance follows funded minting requests, while redemption removes the corresponding tokens from supply.
Transfers and access
Ethereum USDG uses ERC-20 contracts, and Solana uses the Token-2022 program. Other supported networks include Ink, Arbitrum and Mantle. LayerZero's OFT contracts provide transfers between supported deployments. Direct institutional minting requires Paxos onboarding and identity checks. Users pay network transaction charges in the relevant blockchain's gas asset when transferring USDG.
