What is goBTC?
Overview
goBTC brings Bitcoin to the Algorand blockchain through a bridge mechanism. Each token is fully collateralized by native BTC held in reserve. The project aims to give Bitcoin the speed and energy efficiency of Algorand, which operates with carbon neutrality. For every goBTC issued, a corresponding carbon credit is generated to offset the environmental impact of the original Bitcoin.
How it works
goBTC operates on the Algorand blockchain as a wrapped Bitcoin token. Users bridge BTC to Algorand through a dedicated application, receiving goBTC in return. The mechanism preserves a 1:1 backing ratio between issued tokens and Bitcoin collateral.
Token and supply
goBTC has a maximum supply of 21 million tokens, matching Bitcoin's supply cap. The current total supply is approximately 117 tokens. goBTC functions as a collateralized representation of Bitcoin on Algorand, enabling interaction with the ecosystem's applications and infrastructure.
