What is GoodDollar?
Overview
GoodDollar is a social-impact protocol that combines decentralized finance with Universal Basic Income distribution. It addresses financial inclusion by allowing individuals worldwide to experience and transact with cryptocurrency, particularly those with limited access to traditional banking. The protocol distributes wealth by aggregating yield from external DeFi protocols and directing returns toward eligible UBI claimers.
How it works
GoodDollar operates through a system of Trust Funds that collect supporter deposits and route them into third-party DeFi protocols such as Compound and Aave. The yield generated is fed into a reserve contract, which uses the Bancor Formula to set token pricing and determine supply issuance. This mechanism ensures that new G$ tokens are backed by real collateral rather than pure inflation, and token holders can cash back from the reserve according to protocol policies.
Token and supply
The G$ token serves as the protocol's reserve-backed cryptocurrency and is the primary vehicle for UBI distribution to verified claimers. It has a maximum supply of 2.2 trillion tokens. Supply issuance is controlled by the Bancor Formula, which dynamically generates new tokens based on demand from buyers, holders, merchants, and liquidity providers while maintaining backing from the reserve.
