What is Hippius?
Storage network
Hippius runs its storage services on the Arion network. Files are erasure-coded into 30 pieces across independent miners. Any 10 pieces can reconstruct the file. Placement and miner rewards are recorded on a Substrate-based Hippius chain. Drive encrypts files on the user’s device. S3 storage provides an object-storage interface for applications. Hub supports AI models and container images. Confidential computing is a separate product still described as forthcoming.
Alpha and hAlpha
Hippius uses the native alpha token of Bittensor subnet 75. Its stated maximum supply is 21 million, with emissions following halvings. hAlpha is a one-to-one bridged representation on the Hippius chain. The economic design connects it with staking and miner collateral. Miners lock hAlpha to provide storage capacity. The model redirects dividends forfeited by locked positions to a shared staking pool. Service revenue also participates in this locking and redistribution framework. Storage customers can fund their account through supported card or crypto payment methods. The alpha token and prepaid account balance therefore perform different functions.
