What is Hive?
Resources and governance
Hive uses delegated Proof of Stake. Stakeholders elect witnesses to produce blocks. Users can lock HIVE into Hive Power. Hive Power influences witness voting and content-reward participation. It also provides access to the Resource Credits used for network activity. Resource Credits regenerate rather than charging a transaction fee for every action. Accounts can therefore publish and transfer assets within their available resource allowance.
Issuance and community funding
HIVE has no predetermined maximum supply. Its inflation rate decreases with the number of blocks produced. The schedule eventually reaches a continuing annual rate of 0.95%. New issuance funds content rewards, Hive Power participation, witnesses and community development. The Decentralized Hive Fund finances approved ecosystem proposals. Stakeholders determine proposal support through their voting power. HBD is a separate dollar-oriented asset within Hive's dual-currency economy.
