What is Holo?
Origins and technology
Holochain was created by Arthur Brock and Eric Harris-Braun. It uses an agent-centric architecture rather than a single global blockchain ledger. Each participant keeps a signed source chain. Application data is shared and validated through a distributed hash table. Holo's hosting services connect this architecture with users accessing applications through web interfaces.
Token and hosting units
The original HOT issuance was approximately 177 billion tokens. HOT is an ERC-20 asset, with canonical bridged deployments on Arbitrum and Base. Its Ethereum settlement therefore follows Ethereum's network rules. HoloFuel is a separate mutual-credit accounting unit intended for hosting services. Its design prices the compute, storage and bandwidth supplied by hosts. HoloFuel's credit-based accounting differs from HOT's original token issuance.
Migration status
In April 2026, Holo tested the technical transition using mock HOT on Ethereum's Sepolia testnet. The test locked those tokens and represented them inside the Unyt application. It also tested a one-to-one conversion into HoloFuel. This experiment used test assets rather than holders' real HOT. Holo's published terms state that Holo Limited does not currently offer token exchange or redemption services. Production availability therefore depends on the migration rollout and its operating arrangements.
