What is Injective?

Origin and network

Injective Labs was cofounded by Eric Chen and Albert Chon. The INJ token generation event took place in October 2020. Injective's mainnet followed on November 8, 2021. Its Cosmos-based architecture includes modules for order books, derivatives, and asset transfers. Applications can share these financial components rather than building separate settlement engines.

Staking and governance

Validators stake INJ to participate in consensus and maintain the chain's state. Other holders can delegate tokens to validators. INJ also pays transaction charges on the network. Staked voting power governs protocol upgrades and configurable economic parameters. Validator and delegator rewards are issued under the chain's staking rules.

Supply mechanisms

The initial allocation contained 100 million INJ. That figure is a genesis amount rather than an immutable supply ceiling. Protocol issuance adds staking rewards, while periodic community buybacks remove tokens permanently. The current buyback program draws on revenue collected from network activity. Net supply therefore depends on both issuance parameters and the amount burned.
