What is IOST?
Network uses
The original IOST network supports smart contracts and decentralized applications. Token pledges provide transaction gas resources. Its resource model also includes storage allocation. IOST holders participate in node voting and staking. The 3.0 infrastructure adds EVM-compatible execution and settlement on BNB Chain. Its development program includes real-world-asset issuance and payment services.
Token evolution
The 3.0 economic model allocates 21.32 billion additional IOST for its Layer 2 rollout. This allocation is separate from the earlier Layer 1 supply. Ninety-seven percent of the new allocation supports community and ecosystem uses. Node rewards receive 60%, while airdrops and StakeDrops receive 20%. PayFi incentives receive 8% and developer grants 5%. Nexus DAO funding and team incentives receive 4% and 3% respectively. These allocations release on different multi-year schedules. The StakeDrop program connects reward eligibility with the amount and duration of locked IOST.
